I have attached the official information which is lifted from previously published recommendation in Medical Aspects of Boxing 2006 and which the club should have. The coach should have been able to advise the boxer.
· It includes a standard layout letter that has to be used by ALL boxers wanting to box with braces whether upper &/or lower.
· It must be written by the orthodontist treating the boxer and on their own official practice notepaper.
· It is the boxer's responsibility to get it and ABAE does not interfere in the dental treatment.
· If the orthodontist does not want to supply such a letter then the potential boxer can NOT box until all braces have gone.
· ABAE can not intercede on this point.
· Please also note that, as the teeth shape changes with the orthodontic process, the mouthguard may no longer fit.
· It must therefore be checked by the orthodontist at very review.
· It is also why the mouthguard is inspected by the doctor prior to all competitions and why the last paragraph on the page has been written.
